第５回 "うちのペットは隣のペットよりもかわいい"(比較1)

比較について復習しましょう。慣用的な表現がたくさんあります。しっかり覚えておきましょう！
まず比較級では常に「2つのもの」が比較されているということを頭に入れておきましょう。

（１）この橋は、あの橋より20メートル長い。
　　　 This bridge is twenty meters (　　　　　　) than that one is.

（２）この車は、あの車よりずっと大きい。
　　　 This car is (　　　　　　) bigger than that one is.

（３）このパソコンは、あのパソコンほど複雑ではない。
　　　 This PC is (　　　　　　) complicated than that one is.

（４）馬が魚でないのと同様、鯨も魚ではない。
　　　 A whale is no more a fish (　　　　　　) a horse is.

（５）早朝の散歩ほど楽しいものはない。
　　　 (　　　　　　) is more pleasant than to take a walk early in the morning.

（１）　longer … どれほどより長いのかは、比較級の前に置きます。

（２）　much … 比較級を強めたい時は、比較級の前にmuchを置きます。

（３）　less … A is less 〜 than B 「AはBほど〜ではない」

（４）　than … A is no more B than C is D　「AがBでないのは、CがDでないのと同じだ」(B = Dのとき、Dは省略可)

（５）　Nothing … Nothing +比較級で、内容的には最上級の意味を表します。

 


比較級を使った慣用的表現についてもう少し復習しておきましょう。

（１）　The … the + 比較級〜, the + 比較級〜の構文です。「〜であればあるほどますます…」という意味。

（２）　any other … 比較級 + any other + 単数名詞は、最上級と同じ内容をあらわします。

（３）　less … not less than 〜 = at least　「少なくても」

（４）　less … no less than 〜 = as much(many) as 〜「〜ほども」

（５）　more … not more than 〜「せいぜい、多くても」
