Feng Xiao (China)
Preparation for Undergraduate / Postgraduate Admissions Course
Class of 2019
Entered Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts
Also passed the entrance exam for Musashino Art University, Graduate School of Art and Design
- Q1 What made you choose JCFL?
- I was studying Japanese in Kyoto and wanted to study in Tokyo. I though I should move to Tokyo and attended JCFL Informaton session., where a very kind teacher gave me a clear explanation, which strengthened my expectation of studying there for one year. That's how I decided to enter JCFL.
- Q2 What was your favourite class, or the class you think was most useful?
- My favourite class was Essay Writing, and my most useful class was Research Plan Writing.
Essay Writing is very important for Postgraduate Entrance Exam and most challenging for me because I aimed at writing a specialist essay which had worthwhile content at the same time acquiring Japanese technical terms and expression. I had the class twice a week, and I learned specialist terms and expressions. It greatly helped me in the exam.
Research Plan Writing was free and flexible class; not only did I write a plan but also practiced oral explanation and interview. After a lot of consultations with Taniguchi Senseii(Ms.Taniguchi), finally I was able to put my thought in order and convey it to the professor in the exam.
- Q3 Homeroom Teacher
- My homeroom teacher was Ms.Taniguchi. As my major was art, I had to prepare an explanation of my work in a lot of detail. Ms. Taniguchi was a very kind teacher, and took great care in designing my course of study. I am very much grateful to her for her kind support.
- Q4 Advice to future students
- Taking entrance exams is really hard and you’ll experience some setbacks along the way, but please try to take them in your stride. These experiences will help you to grow as a person and benefit you in the future.

Li Tianyu (China)
Japanese-Korean / Japanese-Chinese Interpretation & Translation Course, 2nd Year student
Born in China, graduated from Beijing University
Studied at An Language School (Ikebukuro campus)
Enrolled at JCFL in 2019
- Q1 What was your reason for studying in Japan?
- I majored in Japanese at uni. and worked for a Japanese company making games. My job was mainly translation; I wanted to use Japanese freely, and thought I should come to Japan.and study there.
- Q2 After studying Japanese 1 year 3 months in a language school, you entered JCFL’s Japanese-Korean / Japanese-Chinese Interpretation & Translation Course?
- Yes, I had no hesitation to choose JCFL as ithe best place to develop high skills in Interpretation and translation. I had felt a limit to my Japanese competence since I came to Japan, and I thought JCFL was the place I should go to get specialist skills.
- Q3 How did you find the lessons at JCFL?
- I most enjoyed Interpretation and Translation classes. The more the lessons proceeded, the more excited I was at the challenged I facedwith the profound meaning of words and fine tuning in the choice of them. I also enjoyed Japanese History, and IT where I learned to use Japanese Key board.
- Q4 Are there any subjects you find difficult?
- As I'm poor at memorizing place names, Japanese Geography is a little difficult to me. But when I actually visited the places I studied in class, or heard the names of places in news, the memory came back to me and I feel I have absorbed what I learned in class.
- Q5 Last year you made a speech to a large audience with many Japanese students in the JCFL speech contest, right?
- Yes. it was a big event in my study aborad experience, or even in my life. Of course, I felt a little nervous, but I gained confidence in myself, and became a bit more outgoing.
- Q6 I hear you got a job offer last month.
- Yes, Yodobashi Camera Inc. offered me a job. I had interviews several times but I was prepared well because I had learned how to cope with interviews in Employment Seminar where I was trained to write resume, explain my learning at LCFL and self-advertisement.
I'm looking forward to working as I may be put in a position where I handle customer service.
- Q7 Finally please give some message for those thnking of JCFL
- I’m sure you’ll discover a new you at JCFL. Just go for it!
