TOp Whatcom Community College Student NAMED
Yuka Ikeda, an international student from Yokohama, Japan, selected Whatcom Community College in 2009 for her studies, majoring in business. An active member and leader in the Business Club and the International Friendship Club, Yuka is truly someone who goes the extra mile to help fellow students and community members, and to strengthen the business program and the college community. Her goals of pursuing an international business degree and increasing her proficiency in the English language have expanded to include a commitment to increasing international relations and sharing cultural awareness. The 2011 All-Washington Academic Team, sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, includes 63 students representing 33 community and technical colleges in Washington State. The program has become the showcase for Washington’s community and technical colleges because it honors the academic high achievers, the men and women who have demonstrated a commitment to success in the classroom and in the communities in which they live. This recognition demonstrates the state’s commitment to scholarship and community service on the part of those attending the state’s public community and technical colleges. The All-Washington Academic Team is the qualifying step in the competition for nomination for two community college academic team recognition programs, the All-USA Community College Academic Team and Coca Cola All-State Community College Academic Team. The collaboration of USA TODAY, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, The Coca-Cola Foundation, AACC and Phi Theta Kappa will lead to students being featured in an April issue of USA TODAY and the awarding of nearly $350,000 in stipends to outstanding community college students. |
